Legal Project Associate

The Legal Project Associate™ (LPA) certification recognizes a person with introductory knowledge about Legal Project Management and has the ability to either support legal matters or work in the legal matter project team.

To be eligible for the LPA certification, a candidate is required to have completed the ‘Applied Legal Project Management’ course delivered by Amarelaw.

After successful completion of the course, the candidate can apply for the LPA certification by which will be entered on a database of award holders maintained by the IILPM and receive an embossed certificate confirming his/her status as a Legal Project AssociateTM.

The LPA certification is a pathway for those starting in the legal profession or new to legal project management.

Who is the LPA Certification for?

The Legal Project Associate or LPA is a trademark and certification of the International Institute of Legal Project Management. It is designed for people working in legal teams or supporting legal matters.

Is it only for lawyers?

There are many non-lawyer roles in legal teams, therefore the certification is not just for lawyers. Those holding the certification include lawyers, legal secretaries, paralegals, law students, legal consultants and practice managers.

Is there a periodic re-certification?

No.  Once achieved you keep it for life.

You may choose to later upgrade with further training to the Legal Project PractitionerTM certificate.

Is there any work-based experience required?

There is no work experience prerequisites for this certification, so it helps those not working in the legal profession to at least gain some knowledge and credentials in preparation for working in legal projects.

How do I achieve the LPA?

Once completing the ‘Applied Project Management’ training delivered by Amarelaw, you have met the educational pre-requisites and you simply complete the LPA Application which will be routed through Amarelaw for you to obtain the LPA status.

How much does the LPA application cost?

Once meeting the educational pre-requisites, the cost of gaining the LPA certification is US$147.

Who issues the LPA?

The International Institute of Legal Project Management issues the LPA.

The certification is issued electronically, however you can for US$37 receive it in hardcopy. The hardcopy version comes in a folder in the mail with the:

  1. Welcome letter from the IILPM Chairman; and
  2. LPA Certification certificate with the gold IILPM seal.

How can I promote myself with the LPA certification?

Certified LPA graduates can use the LPA post-nominal next to their name (on social media, business cards, websites, presentations, reports etc), and refer to themselves as a certified Legal Project Associate.

Certified LPA graduates may also use the certification logo to identify themselves.

Legal Project Practitioner

The Legal Project Practitioner™ (LPP) certification recognizes a person with practitioner level knowledge about Legal Project Management and has the ability to lead legal matters as a legal project manager.

This is the premier global certification for a legal project manager.

To be eligible for the LPP certification, a candidate is required to have the ‘Advanced Legal Project Management’ course delivered by Amarelaw, and must be one or more of the following:

* a qualified lawyer;
* completing one of the IILPM ATP-delivered university programs;
*  working in a law firm for at least one year (within the last 3 years);
*  working with internal Legal Counsel for at least one year (within the last 3 years); and/or
* working with law firms in the capacity of an adviser, consultant or trainer for at least one year (within the last 3 years).

After successful completion of the course, the candidate can apply for the LPP certification by which will be entered on a database of award holders maintained by the IILPM and receive an embossed certificate confirming their status as a Legal Project PractitionerTM.

Who is the LPP Certification For?

Legal Project Practitioner or LPP is a trademark and certification of the International Institute of Legal Project Management.

It is designed for people leading legal matters. 

Is the Certification only for Lawyers?

There are many non-lawyer professional project managers now entering the legal profession. This allows an experienced project manager focusing on the process, to free up the more expensive lawyers to focus on the legal tasks.

Therefore, a Legal Project Manager may or may not be a qualified lawyer. The LPP does requires some workplace experience in a legal environment, however.

In fact, some lawyers who choose not to practice law, find the Legal Project Manager a satisfying alternative to being a practicing lawyer.

Those holding the certification include lawyers, professional project managers working in law, paralegals, law students, legal consultants, law firm educators and practice managers.

Is there a periodic re-certification?

Yes. The certification expects the graduate to continue their practice, and therefore requires re-certification every 5 years.
